About me and this website

Hi! My name is John Hinson. I am an engineer (mechanical focused) by degree/job. My spare time is usually filled with designing/coding microcontroller projects, casual gaming, various home improvement projects, and basically anything to do with computers, fintech, and technology in general. I always seem to have multiple projects in-work. I’m currently wrapped up in the Apple ecosystem, but I also really enjoy working with Linux. I use Linux on my home servers and try to stay updated on current news/topics. I tried using Linux as my main PC several times over the years, but it never stuck. I'm not sure I can really back out of the Apple ecosystem and give up my MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. I used Arch Linux on my servers for about 10 years, briefly switched over to Fedora around 2022, then landed on Debian. I learned a lot about Linux during my time using Arch. Ultimately, I decided to switch over to Debian for the rock-solid reliability. Just because I know how to do detailed system administration work in Linux doesn't mean I always want to. I like Debian's defaults, and I can still dive into the weeds if I choose.

This website will mostly be a space to document my projects but will also provide feedback on hardware and software that I use. There will be some tutorials that I create to document particularly tricky setups or to explain something that I believe others may find useful. This site is mainly for my documentation and future reference, but maybe someone else will find it helpful as well.
